About True Lift Garage Door

We’re a St. Louis garage door company owned by people who live here, staffed by background-checked technicians accountable to us, and priced from a single flat-rate book that doesn’t care what your ZIP code is. Here’s the whole story, including the parts most companies leave out.

Why we started this company

True Lift Garage Door exists for a boring, specific reason: the garage door trade in St. Louis had developed a reputation problem, and it was earned. Homeowners were calling about a broken spring and getting a salesperson. The salesperson worked on commission. The commission was bigger on a new door than on a spring set. You can predict the rest, and if you’ve had that visit, you already know exactly how it felt.

The two dominant names in this market are a nearly century-old company now owned by a national parent, and a national franchise operating under a local name. Both employ good technicians. Both also carry the overhead that comes with that structure — franchise royalties, corporate marketing assessments, regional sales quotas — and that overhead has to come out of somewhere. It comes out of your invoice.

We’re independent. There are no franchise fees leaving this business every month, no corporate sales targets handed down from a head office in another state, and no reason to price a spring job in Ladue differently than one in Bevo Mill. That’s not a slogan. It’s just what happens when nobody upstream is taking a cut.

Flat rate, and no ZIP code tax

We publish what this work typically costs. The ranges on our pricing page are what most St. Louis homeowners pay, and the same repair costs the same everywhere we work — St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Jefferson County and the Metro East. Your exact price is quoted in writing before any work begins.

This matters more than it sounds like it should. Some home-services price books quietly index to median household income by ZIP code. Some companies attach a “travel fee” that mysteriously appears only for addresses across a certain line. We ran the numbers once, set one flat rate for each job, and stopped thinking about it. If our quote changes when you give us your address, something has gone wrong — call us on it.

Flat rate also means the clock isn’t your problem. If a bracket is rusted solid and the job runs an extra forty minutes, that’s our risk, not a line item on your bill. You approve a written number before anything is touched, and that number is what you pay.

Vetted technicians — and nobody works on commission

Every technician who pulls into your driveway works under the True Lift name and to True Lift’s standards. Background-checked, uniformed, driving a marked truck, covered by our general liability insurance, and personally accountable to us for the work. You will never get a stranger in an unmarked van that we found on a lead-generation app forty minutes before your appointment, and you will never be handed off to a company you didn’t call.

And none of them earn a commission on what they sell. This is the single most important structural decision in the company, so it’s worth being blunt about why. When a technician’s paycheck grows with the size of the invoice, his incentives and yours are opposed — and that is true even when he’s a decent person, because the pressure is built into the pay structure rather than into his character. Removing commission removes the pressure. If a $190 spring set fixes your door, that’s what our tech recommends, and he goes home paid the same as if he’d sold you a $2,400 door.

Stocked trucks and real arrival windows

Roughly nine out of ten residential repairs in this metro come down to a short list of parts: torsion springs in the common sizes, cables, drums, bearings, nylon rollers, hinges, opener gear kits, safety sensors and logic boards. We carry all of it on every truck, which is why most jobs finish on the first visit rather than becoming a “we’ll order the part and call you Thursday” situation.

We schedule in two-hour arrival windows, not all-day blocks, and we text you when the technician is en route with his name and photo. Nobody should have to burn a vacation day waiting for a garage door.

Safety training, because this trade actually is dangerous

A wound torsion spring on a double door holds several hundred foot-pounds of stored energy in check, restrained by two steel winding bars held above a technician’s head. When something slips, a winding bar becomes a projectile at face height. Serious hand, wrist and facial injuries happen in this trade every year, and most of them happen to people who thought it looked straightforward on a video.

Our technicians train specifically on torsion system procedure — correct bar length and fit, proper stance, spring sizing by wire diameter and inside diameter, hand-balance verification and auto-reverse safety testing — before they run calls unsupervised. That training is also why we insist, on every page of this site, that you don’t attempt spring work yourself. It isn’t upselling. It’s the one repair where being wrong costs more than money.

Written warranty on the invoice

Everyone in this industry says “industry-leading warranty.” Very few put a number in writing before you pay. We print the term — parts and labor, both — directly on your invoice, and you read it before the card comes out. If we install a part and it fails inside that term, we come back and make it right at no charge. Details are summarized in our terms of service.

Where we work, and where we live

We cover the metro from South City to Wentzville and from Florissant to Festus, plus the Illinois side. The reason our service pages talk about extension springs in Lemay, noisy rollers under bedrooms in Kirkwood and cohort spring failures in St. Charles County subdivisions is that those are the calls we actually run — not generic copy with a city name dropped in.

We’re also a St. Louis household ourselves, and we intend to build this the slow way — by doing good work for neighbors who tell other neighbors. That’s the whole plan.

What We Stand For

Four Rules We Don’t Bend

Every policy on this site traces back to one of these.

Tell people the truth

If the door can be repaired, we say so, even when replacement pays us more. If a part is discontinued and a repair no longer makes financial sense, we say that too and price both options side by side.

Price it the same for everyone

One flat-rate book across five counties. No ZIP code premium, no travel fee, no different number for a nicer driveway. The price you’re quoted on the phone is the price you see in writing on site.

Never put a stranger in your driveway

Background-checked, uniformed, insured, in a marked truck, with a text before arrival showing you who’s coming and what he looks like. Never an unvetted stranger off a lead app.

Leave it safer than we found it

Every visit ends with a hand-balance test and an auto-reverse safety test, and we’ll point out missing containment cables or failed photo eyes even when they’re not what you called about.

How It Works

What a Service Call With Us Looks Like

Call or book online

A real person in St. Louis answers — not an out-of-state call center. Tell us what the door is doing and we’ll book the next open window.

2-hour arrival window

We text you when the tech is en route with his name and photo. No blocking off your entire afternoon.

Diagnosis & flat-rate quote

The tech inspects the full system, shows you the failed part, and gives you up to three written options — good, better, best.

Fixed on the spot

You approve, he fixes it from the parts on the truck, then re-balances and safety-tests the door before he leaves.

Licensing, insurance and credentials

We carry general liability and workers’ compensation coverage and we’re registered in the jurisdictions where we work. Ask and we’ll email the certificate of insurance before your appointment — no hesitation, no runaround. Because St. Louis County alone has more than 80 separate municipalities with their own contractor registration and permitting rules, we check requirements per address rather than assuming.

We’ll list manufacturer certifications, trade association memberships and license numbers here as they’re documented. We’d rather show you a blank space than a badge we can’t back up.

Same for reviews. We’re a new company and we don’t have a long review history yet, so you won’t find an invented star rating anywhere on this site. What you’ll find on our reviews page is an honest explanation and real feedback as it comes in.
